PURCHASE OF PORTABLE GENERATOR
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended to Council the following:
1. THAT Report TR-42-99 be received;
2. THAT a purchase order in the amount of $51 ,537.25 ($44,815.00 + taxes), be
issued to Langley Utilities Contracting, for the purchase of one 100 kw portable
generator, as required by the Municipality of Clarington;
3. THAT funds at $35,000.00 as approved in the 1999 capital budget (page 134) be
drawn from account #7007-0002-0505;
4. THAT the additional funds in the amount of approximately $16,537.00 be drawn
from the Impact Escrow Reserve Fund; and
5. THAT Purchasing By-law #94-129, Section 5, Paragraph 5.06 be waived for this
transaction.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
As approved in report FD-9-99 (schedule "A" attached), the purchase of a portable
generator was recommended by the Y2K Committee for emergency sheltering
purposes.
Staff have been advised that in order to ensure delivery, a purchase order must be
placed by June 30, 1999.
It is therefore recommended that Purchasing By-law #94-129, Section 5, Paragraph
5.06 be waived for this transaction.

It is recommended that the required funds be drawn from account # 7007-0002-0505.
After further review and analysis of the bids, by Purchasing, Public Works and the Fire
Department, it is recommended that a purchase order be issued to Langley Utilities,
Bowmanville, in the amount of $51 ,537.25 for the purchase of a portable generator as
recommended by the Y2K Committee.
The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs with the
recommendation. Queries with respect to department needs, specifications, etc., should
be referred to the Fire Chief.
