The clean-up was held in conjunction with the clean-ups for the Port of Newcastle and Bond Head. At all three locations 204 volunteers picked up 1700 lbs of trash. Following the clean-up a BBQ sponsored by Enbridge was held for the volunteers at the Admirals Walk Clubhouse. A photo of the installed plaque was circulated at the meeting. Birdhouses Approximately 48 birdhouses were cleaned his spring by several of the committee members. It appears that 80-85% of the boxes were occupied in 2017. Eighteen additional birdhouses have been donated by Port of Newcastle resident Kevin Leckie. Those birdhouses are now installed along the south side of the hydro corridor on the Toronto Street side of the SWNA. A thank you letter will be sent from the committee to Kevin Leckie. Fishing line disposal containers At the April 2018 meeting Leo Blindenbach suggested that fishing line disposal containers be installed at the SWNA in locations convenient to anglers. Several of these, made from poly pipe, have been installed by Bowmanville Anglers along the Bowmanville Creek. Leo was able to obtain free material from Rono Newcastle and 6 containers were built by volunteer Kevin Leckie. The locations for the containers will be determined and installed in the coming weeks. Brian Reid will request 6 additional T -bars for the installation from Operations. Thank -you letters will be sent to Rona and Kevin Leckie. 4. SWNA May 2018 minutes Friends of Second Marsh Festival June 2 In 2017 the SWNA Committee had a booth at a public event organized by Friends of Second Marsh at the McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve in Oshawa. Approximately 450 people attended the event therefore it was a great opportunity for spreading information about the SWNA. This year's event will take place on June 2 and the committee will request a booth again this year. A map showing the various features of the SWNA will be displayed. Kate Potter and Tom Hossie will attend on behalf of the committee.
