Present: All members except Councillor Fice. I ADOPTIOTd OF MINUTES. Moved by Con. Brough and Nichols: That the minutes of the meeting held on Monday, March 5th, 1962, be received and adopted. carried. II PETITIONS & DEPUTATIONS. 1. Mr. Glen Lander and members of The Directors of the Bow- manville Chamber of Commerce appeared before Council ad- vising that the Steinberg lot on the corner of Division and Church Streets had been offered for sale at a price of ~55,~00,00. This delegations requested that Council consider the purchase of this land for use as a Municipal Parking Lot. They advised that unfortunately the Stein- berg Company had set a deadline for knowing the Municip- ality~s interest, at March 20th, 1962: Moved by Councillor Hooper and Reeve Little: That the matter of purchasing the Steinberg lot be referred to the Board of Works Committee for their study and consideration at a meeting to be held March 27t~~6z', carried` The Clerk was instructed to notify Steinbergs of Council's action at this meeting in an effort to have an extension of time until this meeting could be held and some decision reached. 2. The following letter was received from Mr. Jack Lander, representative of Local Sports and Mr: ~ Mrs. R. Gill on behalf of the Royal Theatre in respect to the forthcoming vote on Sunday Movies and Sunday Sports: 'Complying with the suggestion of Bowmanville Council that the date for the local Sunday Sports and Movies plebiscite be referred to the parties concerned and after conferring with Town Clerk Mr. Jack Reid; we the undersigned submit Monday, April 9th, the earliest possible date for the afore- mentioned local vote. It was felt that this vote should take place as far ahead of Easter as possible and while the Arena was still open and the local interest there still high.Tt Moved by Con. Hughes and Brough: That we concur in the request submitted by Mr: Lander and Mr. & Mrs. Gill and that the by-law to submit Sunday Movies and Sunday Spc,rts question to the electorate be held on April 9th, 1962 carried. .. 2 ... III COMMUNICATIONS. 1. Dr. J.E_ Hendry. trOn behalf of Hendry Investments I would like to propose the further opening of Frank Street to connect with Prince Street as is shown on the plan`of the property, We would also like to propose that this work be completed by the Town and charged to the adjoining frontage and paid for by a frontage tax against the property.r~ Moved by Dep-Reeve Stevens and Coun. Hooper: That this communication be referred to the Board of Works Committee for their consideration. carried. 2: A letter was received from the Assoc ation of Assessing Officers advising of their forthcoming annual convention being held in Niagara Falls, May 27th - May 31st/b2. Moved by Con. Brough and Oke: That the Assessor, C.S.. Oke, be authorized to attend at the CorporationTs expense the forthcoming annual con- vention of the Assom.ation of the Assessing Officers being held in Niagara Falls, May 27th-May 31st/62. carried, 3s A letter received from the Ontario Municipal Association advised that a local government study tour of five European Countries was proposed for the members of this Association, Moved by Dep-Reeve Stevens and Con. Brought -- That this matter be drought to the attention of the Regional Planning Board to determine whether or not there is any interest in sending a representative from this area. carried. 1i.. Lake pntario Development Association'. t'Your Councilts request for L:O:DeA. to conduct a detailed study of Boti,~manvilleTs Industrial Developrent Program has been received in our office and will be carried out this year. We are allotted to survey four communities in 1962 and Bowmanville was fortunate in getting their request in on time. The surveys being done are as follows: Napanee, Port Hope, Cobourg, Bowmanville. No doubt you and your Council will understand that if these studies are done properly they take considerable. time and effort and there- fore it will probably be in the Fall before we will be able to proceed with the Bowmanville request. At this time we will come to Bowmanville and the offer of your assistance is greatly appreciated. Moved by Con.
