The meeting was called to order at 6:45pm.
1. Adoption of Minutes
Moved by Andrea O'Bumsawin, seconded by Maureen Reed
That the minutes of the meeting of December 6, 2017 be approved.

There were no presentations.
3. Business Arising From Minutes
(a) Dementia Friendly Communities presentation
Alzheimer Society of Durham Region will present to the Committee at the March
57 2018 meeting.
(b) Correspondence regarding November delegation of Andre O'Bumsawin
Andrea Nicholson read the December 12, 2017 correspondence about the
approved Resolution #GG -475-17 concerning the delegation of Andre
O'Bumsawin, regarding International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

(c) Council Chambers Audio enhancements
Andrea Nicholson reported that the planned renovations to Council Chambers in
2018 will include audio enhancements.
(d) 2017 Accessibility Annual Status Update
Andrea Nicholson presented the 2017 Accessibility Annual Status Update Report
and informed the Committee that the report will be amended to
• add that seat covers to designate priority seating for people with
disabilities have been ordered for Council Chambers, and
• change the audio speech synthesizer installation in the Main Branch
Library elevator will take place in early 2018.

That the Accessibility Advisory Committee endorse the 2017 Accessibility Annual
Status Update Report.

4. New Business
(a) Businesses requesting information regarding accessibility and
accessibility grants
Maureen Reed reported that the Visual Arts Centre would like information
regarding accessibility grants. Shea -Lea Latchford reported that Hands In
Motion requested information regarding accessibly legislation and making their
business more accessible. The Committee requested that Andrea Nicholson
contact these two organizations.
(b) Site Plan Review Sub -Committee
Andre O'Bumsawin reported that the Sub -committee committee would like to
recommend that 10% of units in new townhouse developments be designated as
accessible housing, and that the Sub -committee encourages that developers
take into consideration that 15.5% of Ontarians have a disability and consider
individual units, parking areas and amenity spaces that are accessible to
everyone.

(c) Shoppers Drug Mart Newcastle
Councillor Partner updated the Committee regarding a Newcastle resident group
who is advocating for a back entrance to Shoppers Drug Mart in Newcastle. The
Committee will review past correspondence regarding the site.
(d) Municipal Solicitor
Andrea Nicholson reported that Robert Maciver, Clarington's Municipal Solicitor,
will be attending the February Committee meeting. The Committee would like to
learn more about the Municipal Solicitor's role, including its relationship to
accessibility and the Committee.
5. Regional Update
There was no Regional Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting held in
December.
6. Other Business
There was no other business.

room)
