HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/08/1971 MINUTES OF REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING - MARCH 8th. 1971 Meeting was held in the Council Chambers at 8 p.m. Present were: Reeve D. J. Cunningham, Councillors A. Gray, F. Hoar, F. Couch and M. Brereton. -Res.JOJ Moved by Councillor Couch, Seconded by Councillor Gray that minutes of meeting held February 8th be adopted as printed, with the exception of Resolution No. 299 regarding appointments to the Bow+ing Committee, Mr. Ronald Munro's name to be added to the appointments on this Committee for 1971. Carried. Res.J04 Moved by Councillor Gray, Seconded by Councillor Hoar that Murray Walton be granted permission to install a sign on his property on Mill Street North with regard to his Fish & Chip store. Carried. 7. Res.J05 Moved by Councillor Gray, Seconded by Councillor Couch that Mr. R.B. Rickard's application for a building permit to erect a laudromat and car wash on Lot 15 Beaver Street North with parking space adjacent on vacant lot immediately south, be approved subject to the install- ation of sewers in the Village. Carried. Mr. Walter Bryant spoke to Council with regard to drainage in Orchard Heights subdivision. The Reeve and eome members of Council will investigate thie problem. 4ItRes.J06 Moved by Councillor Brereton, Seconded by Councillor Hoar that Council go into Committee of the Whole, closed to the public. Carried. Res.J07 Moved by Councillor Couch, Seconded by Councillor Gray that Council go out of Committee as a Whole. Carried. Council resumed the order of business, the Reeve inviting the press to return, advising that the business discussed in the Committee of a Whole would be dealt with in the order appearing on the Agenda. Res.J08 Moved by Councillor Brereton, Seconded by Councillor Hoar that a donation of $10.00 be sent to the Canadian Red Cross Society. Carried, Res.J09 Moved by Councillor Gray, Seconded by Councillor Couch that Mr. Blumberg's application for a taxi license for 1971 be approved, subject to adequate insurance coverage as required by the Department of Transport for taxicabs, this information to be obtaine~ by the Clerk from the Department of Transport. A copy of this resolution to be sent to the Council of the Township of Clarke. Carried. . Res.JIO Res .J11 Moved by Councillor Gray, Seconded by Councillor Brereton that of the levy re Ganaraska Conservation Region be paid by August the remaining 50% by December Jlst, 1971. Carried. Moved by Councillor Hoar, Seconded by Councillor Gray that Merril Henry , caretaker of the Community Hall, be given a 6% annual increase in salary. Carried. 50% and Res.J12 Moved by Councillor Gray, Seconded by Councillor Brereton that accounts amounting to $8,200.J8 be aceepted and paid. Carried. Res.JIJ Moved by Councillor Hoar, Seconded by Councillor Couch that reports of the Welfare and Health Departments be accepted. Carried. Res.J14 Moved by Councillor Gray, Seconded by Councillor Couch that letters be filed from Northumberland and Durham Assessment Office, Alex Carruthers, O.W.R.C., Darcy McKeough and Nick Dyriw. Carried. Res.J15 Moved by Councillor COUCh, Seconded by Councillor Brereton that Stanley Gujda be granted permission to separate 2' (two feet) from Lot IJ to add to Lot 12 on the north side of Oatley Court in Orchard Heights Subdivision, plan 660. Carried. . March 8th Minutes continued Res. 316 Moved by Councillor Hoar, Seconded by Councillor Gray that D. J. Cunningham be granted permission to separate 66' x 132' . Ov"d,. from Part of lot:Jq, Concession 1 cin the west side of Baldwin ~~.- Street in the Village of Newcastle. Carried. Res. 317 Moved by Councillor Gray, Seconded by Councillor Brereton that Fern Ricard's application for a Pedlar's license to operate a Fish & Chip truck within the Village not be granted. Carried. Res. 318 Moved by Councillor Hoar, Seconded by Councillor Brereton that Council apply to the Liquor Control Board for the establishment of a liquor and beer store in the Village of Newcastle. Carried. Res. 319 Moved by Councillor Gray, Seconded by Councillor Hoar that the Clerk be permitted to take holidays from April 11th to April 25th. Carried.
