Report #: ADMIN-14-916ile #:
Subject: EAST BEACH PUMPING STATION
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend
to Council the following:
1. THAT Report No. ADMIN -14-96 be received; and
2. THAT staff be authorized to prepare a letter of understanding with the Region of
Durham/Ontario Hydro for the installation and operation of an online monitoring system at
the East Beach Pumping Station.
1.0 BACKGROUND:
1.1 Earlier this year the Municipality obtained the East Beach Pumping Station building in a
property exchange from the Region of Durham. This building currently is being used as
equipment storage for the Public Works Department.
1.2 Staff have been requested through the Region to assist them with an Ontario Hydro
installation of an online Lake current monitoring facility in the vicinity of the Bowmanville
Water Supply Plant intake (Attachment #1). The meter would provide assistance to the
Region and Ontario Hydro in the event of a spill to the Lake. As the wall mounted remote
system will not demand a great deal of space, it is recommended that the unit be installed
in the East Beach Pumping Station at no cost to the Municipality. A letter of understanding
will be established for a period of three years with an option to cancel by either party sup
months in writing.
1.3 This device would be relocated permanently to the Bowmanville Water Pollution Plant at a
future date.
