MINUTES OF REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING - May 13. 1968
Meeting held in Council C~amber at 8 p.m.
Present were: Reeve D. J. Cunningham, Councillors Couch,
Gray, Hoar and Walton.
Moved by COIDlcillor Couch, Seconded by Councillor Gray
that the minutes of meetings of April 8 and April )0
be adopted. Carried.
Mr. Frank Mace asked Council for permission to put in a
50' culvert at his home.
Moved by Con. Walton, Seconded by Con. Gray
that Mr. Mace's request to lay culvert be not granted. Carried.
Mr. Tom Messenger spoke to Council asking for a donation
for the Lions Club Fireworks.
Mr. David Crackle requested Council for street light near
his home and that Speed Limit Signs be put on North Street
to warn north bound traffic.
Mr. Eric Whyte asked that Council s~pply certain banners,
signs, lights and parking privileges for the Summer Festival.
Mr. Albert Pearce asked Council to consider providing
financial assistance towards the installation of automatic
pinsetters in the bowling alley.
Moved by Con. Walton, Seconded by Con. Couch
that Reeve Cunningham be appointed Valuer under the
Provisions of the Dog Tax and Livestock and Poultry Protection
Act, R.S.O. 1960, ch.lll, and in accordance with a letter
from the Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food dated
April 11. Carried.
Moved by Con. Gray, Seconded by Con. Hoar
that the following items be received and filed:
Letter from South Haven Nursing home re rates.
Notice School Trustees and Councillors Seminar.
Ontario Association Housing Authorities Conference.
Waterworks Conference.
Community Planning conference.
Letter from Canadian Transport Commission re: C.P.R. Subwy
North St. Carried.
Moved by Con. Couch, Seconded by Con. Hoar
that Accounts in the amount of $16,941.0~be approved for
payment. Carried.
Moved by Con. Walton, Seconded by Con. Gray
that leave be granted to introduce By-law 68-6 setting
out the estimates and mill rates for 1968 and that it
be read a first time. Carried.
Moved by Con. Hoar, Seconded by Con. Cough
that it be read a second time. Carried.
Moved by Con. COUCh, Seconded by Con. Gray
that it be read third time and finally passed. Carried.
Moved by Con. Gray, Seconded by Con. Hoar
that leave be granted to introduce B~-law 68-5 being a
by-law to repeal by-law 67-11 appointing Harold Wheeler
as Building Inspector, etc. and that it be read a first time.
Carried.
Moved by Con. Walton, Seconded by Con. Couch
that it be read a second time. Carried.
Moved by Con. Hoar, Seconded by Con. Gray
that it be read a third time and finally passed. Carried.
Councillor Hoar presented the report of the Fire Department.
Moved by Con. Hoar, Seconded by Con. Couch
that the report of the Fire Department be accepted. Carried.

that the reports of the Health Unit and the Building
Permits be accepted. Carried.
Moved by Con. Gray, Seconded by Con. Couch
that the Reeve appoint a delegation to secure legal advice
and attend the hearing in Cobourg on May 21st re Clarke
Quieting By-law. Carried.
Reeve appointed Councillors Walton and Hoar to this delegation.
Moved by Con. Gray, Seconded by Con. Hoar
that Councillor Couch look after the street light requested
by Mr. Crackle and that the Reeve look after the speeding
signs on North St. Carried.
Moved by Con. Walton, Seconded by Con. Gray
that the Reeve appoint a committee to meet with the Directors
of the Great Pine Ridge Festival of the Arts on Wed. May 15th
at 8 p.m. in Mr. Lovekin's Office. Carried.
The Reeve appointed Councillors Walton and Couch to this
Committee.
The Clerk announced that the Arena Management Board will
pay forthwith the balance of the amount advanced by the
Village to that Board in 1967 and 1968.
Councillor Walton thanked Council for the flowers which
he received from them while in Hospital.
Moved by Con. Hoar, Seconded by Con. Gray
that Council grant $50. to the Lions Club for their
Fireworks display. Carried.
Moved by Con. Gray, Seconded by Con. Couch
that the meeting adjourn. Carried.
