THAT the correspondence from the Lions Club of Newcastle
dated April 25 1981 be referred to His Worship Mayor

THAT the position being taken by the Ministry of Natural
Resources with respect to the licensing of persons who care
for injured animals be referred to the Town Clerk and that
the Town Clerk contact Dr. G. Topolie, D.V.M., 371 Wilson
Street, Oshawa respecting the Ministry's position, and that a
report on his findings be prepared for Council's consideration.

THAT the Bantam Hockey Club's request for permission to
hold a fund raising dance in the Darlington Sports Centre
on September 12 1981 as detailed in their letter dated
April 10 1981 be approved, subject to the club obtaining
all of the necessary approvals.

THAT the Newcastle Lions Club be granted approval of the
dates of the annual carnival scheduled for July 24 and
25 1981,
And further that the Newcastle Lions Club be given permission
to close Baldwin Street from Caroline Street to Edward
Street (directly west of Newcastle Village Arena) from
6 o'clock p.m. to 11:30 o'clock p.m. on Friday, July 24 1981,
and from 1 :00 o'clock p.m. to 11:30 o'clock p.m. on
Saturday, July 25 1981.

Moved by Councillor Hamre, seconded by Councillor Taylor
WHEREAS the Social Services Committee of the Region of
Durham has long recognized the need for an additional
Home for the Aged in the Region, and
WHEREAS the need for such a Home in the eastern portion of
the Region has previously been commented on in past reports
by Regional staff, and
WHEREAS it has been recently announced by the Provincial
Government that additional funds would be available
provincially for such projects, and
WHEREAS the Town of Newcastle has one of the highest geriatric
populations in the Region with the establishment of
certain developments possibly adding to that population, and
WHEREAS the establishment of said Home in the Town of Newcastle
would be central to the eastern area of the Region and could
serve the residents of Oshawa, Scugog and the Town of Newcastle, and
WHEREAS said location of a Home for the Aged could provide
200 to 300 positions (to operate and maintain same) for the
residents in the area,
THEREFORE be it resolved that the Town of Newcastle go on
record as requesting that the proposed additional Home for
the Aged for the Region of Durham be located in the westerly
portion of the Town of Newcastle. Notification of
request to be forwarded to the Regional Social Services
Committee and to the Region of Durham Council and to our
M.P.P. Mr. Sam Cureatz.

THAT the foregoing resolution be amended by deleting the
words "go on record as requesting that the proposed additional
Home for the Aged for the Region of Durham" and substituting
the following therefor: "direct the Clerk to advise the
Regional Municipality of Durham that the present Town Council
reaffirms the position taken by the Town Council in 1980
with respect to the locating of a Regional Home for the Aged in
the westerly portion of.the Town of Newcastle".

The original motion as amended by Reso1utlon HC-543-81 now
reads as follows:
Moved by Councillor Hamre, seconded by Councillor Taylor
