DeGroot Director of Public Works, J. Dunham until 10:15 a.m. Acting Town Manager, J.M.McIlroy, until 11 a.m. There was a discussion relative to damage to Public Works from the recent storm. Holliday THAT the Town apply to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for subsidy on supplemental expenditures of $170,000. for the reconstruction of Laing's Bridge, Lot 31, Concession 4, Clarke. Prout THAT a letter be sent to the appropriate Ministry indicating that there has been substantial damage over the Town of Newcastle as a result of flooding; the value will not be known for some time but the Town wishes to go on record as requesting Provincial Aid. Barr THAT the meeting be in Committee of the Whole. "CARRIED" The budget discussions continued - Recreation and Cultural Services - Grants. Resolution IIC-80-485 MOved by Con. Cowman, seconded by Con. Hobbs THAT there be a 5 minute recess. "CARRIED" Mr. Wm. Montgomery, Chairman of the Town of Newcastle Library Board and Mrs. B. Schon, Librarian were present to discuss the budget for the Library Board. After considerable discussion, the budget was tabled until the summary of the complete review of the budget had been prepared. The following revisions to Grants were made: 501 - Newcastle Horticultural Society+ $100. 500 - Bowmanville Horticultural Society+ $100. 504 - Salvation Army + $200. 505 - Santa Claus Parade - $200. Mr. Bob Burke, Chairman and Mrs. Veinot, Curator of the Bowmanville Museum were present for the discussion of the Budget of the Bowmanville Museum 7609 - 500 - Bowmanville Museum - $10,000. Prout THAT the meeting recess until 1 p.m. "CARRIED" The meeting reconvened at 1:10 p.m. Mr. Doug Ha tely, Vice Presidert: and Property Chairman of the Visual Arts Centre and Mrs. Honsberger and Mrs. Britton were present for the discussion of their budget. 507 - Visual A~ts Centre - $9,500 Mr. George Carson and Mr. Alec Moffatt were present representing the Durham Central Fair Board. Budget unchanged. Mrs. Elaine Barber was present on behalf of Community Care. 523 Community Care - $2,500. Prout, seconded by Con. Barr THAT the Public Works Budget be reconsidered and 7202-202 - Conventions be reduced to $500.
