HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-107 THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON By-law 2006 - 107 Being a by-law to authorize the use of vote by mail and automated vote counting equipment at Municipal Elections. WHEREAS Section 42 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended provides that a municipal council may pass a by-law authorizing an alternative voting method including vote by mail; AND WHEREAS; Section 42 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended provides that the council of a municipality may, by-by-Iaw, authorize the use of automated vote counting equipment for the purpose of counting votes at the municipal elections; AND WHEREAS council deems it appropriate and in the public interest to conduct the municipal elections using a vote by mail method and to use automated vote counting equipment for the purpose of counting votes; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Clarington authorizes: 1. The municipal elections be conducted using the alternative voting method of "Vote by Mail"; and 2. The use of automated vote counting equipment for the purpose of counting votes at municipal elections. This by-law shall come into full force and take effect as of the date of passing.
