July 9th 1984
Mrs. Peggy Powell spoke on behalf of the residents of Orono
Estates and presented a petition requesting an adult crossing
guard on Mill Street near Mangar's Garage in Orono. (79
signatures) She said that traffic coming off Highway 35/115
and traffic coming and going into the I.G.A. Market, made
crossing dangerous. She felt that there should be a
mechanical traffic count taken over a longer period than
the survey done by the Durham Regional Police. She also
spoke of the lack of a sidewalk on the west side of the
road and limited visibility in winter. She explained that
some children were being driven to school by parents because
of the lack of an adult crossing guard. There are no visible
lines on the pavement indicating a school crossing.
No one was present to speak to this matter.
