TOW N 0 F NEW CAS T L E April 9, 1984 Minutes of a regular meeting of Council, held on Monday, April 9, 1984, at 9:00 a.m., in Court Room #2. The Mayor called the meeting to order and led in prayer. Fanning Absent: Al so Present: Resolution #C-228-84 Moved by Councillor Taylor, seconded by Councillor Hubbard THAT the minutes of the regular meeting of Council held on ~10nday, March 26, 1984, at 7:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers, be approved as read. "CARRIED" Mr. Wernik spoke to Council objecting to the rezoning of Part Lot 25, Concession 2, Darlington, which would permit two houses being built on the property. He said that he had lived on the west side of that property since 1954. Mr. Coghill, an inspector with the Ontario Humane Society spoke to the rezoning, permitting an Exotic Cat Sanctuary, Part Lot 25, Concession 5, Clarke. He said he was in attendance at the direction of Mr. Hughes, the Executive Director of the Society. He asked if Council had approached the Canadian Wild Life Service, as there were some endangered species on the list of animals permitted by the by-law. He also asked if the performance guarantee would cover costs to the Society, if they had to intervene and feed or care for these animals. He also questioned the size of the cages being proposed and felt the size should be increased. . . . "CARRIED" Mr. Klose spoke in response to Mr. Coghill's delegation. He reiterated that the set-up proposed was excellent. He had expanded on the requirements of the Town, relative to size of cages. He was in agreement with Report PD-89-84. Harness, P.Eng., Maintenance Engineer, Regional Municipality of Durham, dated April 2nd 1984, respecting the passing of a resolution by Town Council authorizing the publication of advertising relating to the Weed Control Act, be received; AND THAT THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION BE APPROVED: BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Town of Newcastle authorize the publication of a Public Notice, regarding the destruction of weeds under the provision of the Weed Control Act of the Province of Ontario, and directs the Regional Weed Inspectors to cause noxious weeds or weed seeds to be destroyed in such a manner as they may deem proper and that the expenses incurred by the said Weed Inspectors in the discharge of their duties shall be placed on the Collector's Roll of this municipality against the respective parcels concerned and that such amounts shall be collected in the same manner as taxes under The Municipal Act.
