Bruce Wendall Todd, R.R. #1, Newtonville, informed Council
that in May, 1984, he purchased 63 acres of land assessed
at 50 acres as farm and 13 acres as residential. After
inquiring at the Assessment Department, he was given the
impression the entire 63 acres would be assessed as farm
for 1985. Mr. Todd stated, that he received two 1985
Assessment Notices; 47,000 - farm and 22,000 - Residential.
A few days later, he received another notice for 47,000 but
not for 22,000. He presumed the last notice was the correct
notice. When he received his tax bill he noticed that his
taxes were based on the 47,000 and 22,000 Assessments.
He contacted the Assessment Department and was informed he
should appeal to Council to have the taxes adjusted by
submitting an application to Council for an adjustment
of taxes under Section 496 of The Municipal Act.
He submitted the form to the Assessment Department. The
Assessment Department made no recommendation. Mr. Todd
requests that Council approve his application and adjust
his taxes for 1985 accordingly.
