A regular meeting of the Bowmanville To,m Council was held on
Monday, July 4th, 1'160, at 8:00 P.lI. in the Town Hall.
All members present.

That the Council Minutes dated June 6th, and June 29th, be and
the same are hereby adopted.

CORRESPONDENCE
1. City of Peterborou~h - June 23rd.
"Will you kindly bring to the attention of your Council the follow-
ing resolution which has been passed after due study and thought by
the Council of the City of Peterborough.
"tmEREAS present lel!,islation ia the Province of Ontario
compels the separatejadministration and operation of police
and fire departments
AND WHEREAS such separation appears to be less efficient
and more costly than the combined administration and oper-
ation of these two protective services:
AND WHEREAS in centres of population elsewhere than in the
Province of Ontario experience has shmm that combining these
two services has proyed successful, effi cient and ['lore

THEREFOHE the Legislature of the ProYince of Ontario be re-
quested ~o.amend the present le~islation in order to permit
municipalities in the Province of Ontario to combine under
one administrative unit the administration and operation of
of their police and fire departr,18nts I"
It is hoped that your Council will support this resolution so
that those municipalities which do desire to combine fire and pOlice
services may have the legal authority to do so."

That the Magistrate be requested to appoint Mr. C. Mason as a
Special Constable for Memorial Park and a badge and cap be supplied.

Petition - Third Street.
Moved by Deputy-Reeve Hobbs,
Seconded by Councillor Nicks;
That this petition be accepted and the necessary cost be
obtained. Carried.
5. Tenders
Council was advised that Tenders for }1.C.2 will be received up
until 12:00 NOON, Friday, July 8thj60, and permission was re-
quested to open these Tenders in the afternoon.

That the Eayor, Chairman of Roads & Streets, Board of ',lorks
Superintendant and the Clerk, be authorized to open those Tenders
and that the "lost desirable Tender be accepted.

6.
Sewers - Local Improvement.
Reports were submitted of the cost of storm sewers in the Town of
Bowmanville under Section S of the Local Improvement Act.

That this be tabled until the next Board of \lorks meeting,

7. A discussion took piace regarding weeds in the Town of Bowmanville,
also regarding special garbage pick-ups. This was left in the hands
of the Board of Works Superintendant;
Steinberg's Ltd, - Re~ Cleaning up their property.

That Steinberg's be sent anoth("r letter requesting that they
clean up their property in the Town of Bowmanville.
