Lathangue, That the Council Hinutes dated January 3rd, January 21st, January 24th, and January 31st, and the same are hereby adopted. January 16th, as printed, be carried. ./ CORRESPONDENCE , Canadian Federation of Mayors & Municipalities Membership Fee - ~50.00. Moved by Deputy-Reeve Hobbs, Seconded by Con. Hughes, That no action be takeh. carried. 2. Railway Association of Canada - January 30/61. "The Spring & Summer train schedules of Canadian Railways in 1961 will become effective at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, April 30th, until 12:01 a.m., Sunday, October 29th. The railways are anxious to accommodate their patrons by setting up schedules which will be most convenient, particularly where suburban train service is involved. If your Conlliunity proposes to adopt Daylight Saving Time in 1961, we would respectfully solicit your co-operation in the selection of dates which will coincide with the railway's Spring & Summer train schedules. It will be much appreciated if you would advise us at your earliest convenience, whether or not your Community will be adopting Daylight Saving Time, and, if so the dates for which it will be effective during 1961". "At the time of the disastrous fire in downtown Oshawa recently the r~yor and Aldermen and departments of the administration, police, fire and public works, were most gratified with the ready response of the neighbouring municipalities to give much needed assistance in fighting the fire and the effort of limit- ing it to the one area. Fire trucks responded from Whitby, Whitby Township, and Bowmanvillej and volunteers were here from Pickering Beach, Pickering Village, south-west Pickering, Ajax and Gerrard Road area No. 1 of Whitby TO\V11Ship. Besides the Oshawa staff of 93, who were all on duty, there were 57 volunt- eers from other municipalities. Fire Chief Hobbs stated that all were needed in fil;hting the fire, and roof patrolling in a wide area to prevent spreading of the fire by flying debris. The Oshawa City Council and departments concerned extend sincere thanks to the Fire Department of your municipality, in apprec- iation of the assistance given." v' Moved by Con.
