Minutes of a regular meeting of Council
held on Monday, April 25, 1983, at 7:00 p.m.,
in the Council Chambers.
Mayor Rickard called the meeting to order and
led in prayer.

THAT the minutes of the regular meeting of Council
held on April 11, 1983, be approved as read.

Betty Stark, for the Committee of Clarke Constituents for
the Environment presented a copy of a petition containing
the names of 245 taxpayers in the area of the proposed
rezoning for the Regional Reclaimers Landfill Site. The
petition objected to the expansion of the site for the
following reasons
1. Using Agricultural land for dumping garbage;
2. Litter on the roads which results in flat tires;
3. Maintenance of the already bad roads, caused by
truck traffic;
4. For Environment, head waters of the creek and streams
at this present site;
5. Truck traffic on our roads.

Mr. E. E. Smith, President of Harnden & King
Construction (Ontario) Ltd., asked Council to give
consideration to awarding the Tender for T83-7, Prime
& Surface Treatment, to his company. He stated that
they were read out assecond bidder by less than 2%.
They are local contractors, employing 6 from Newcastle
and 42 from the Region of Durham and pay taxes in the
Town. The project would employ a 14 man crew for one
month. They have done this work in Newcastle since
1977 .

dated April 4, 1983, requesting that "Nurses' Week" be
proclaimed in the Town of Newcastle be received, and
their request that the week of May 1 to 7, 1983, be
proclaimed as "Nurses Week" in the Town of Newcastle
be approved and advertised in accordance with Town
Policy.

AND FURTHER that they dispatch a letter to the Region
of Durham, supporting Oshawa's request for early
consideration to the reconstruction of Townline Road
North from the Kingsway Village Shopping Mall to
Adelaide Avenue East, including the installation of
sidewalks.
