No person was present to speak re By-law 83-41,
being a by-law to stop-up and close and to
authorize the sale of all that portion of
the original road allowance between Lots 4
and 5, Concession 4, in the former Township
of Clarke.
Donna Fairey, Chairman of the Publicity and Promotion
Committee for the Celebration of the 125th Anniversary
of Bowmanville, spoke to the Committee. She outlined
a proposal for planting 125 flowering crabapple trees
in Bowmanville to be known as "Operation Apple Blossom."
Her Committee felt this would be in keeping with the
floral emblem of Newcastle, which is the apple blossom.
These trees would be purchased for $10.00 each and sold for
$15.00 to the public to be placed on Town Property or private
property. There would be a granite tablet with the names of
the sponsors placed at the cenotaph. She had 2 requests:
that the Town upfront the $1,250.00 for the purchase of the
trees, and the Works Department co-ordinate the planting
on Town Property. These trees must be ordered immediately
for spring planting.
