Minutes of a Special Meeting of Council held
On Tuesday, July 25 1978 at 4 p.m. in Court
Roan 2.
Present were:
Mayor G. B. Rickard
Councillor R. Dykstra
Councillor A. Gray
Councillor R. Bruce Taylor
Councillor E. R. Woodyard
Town Clerk J. M. McIlroy
Also Present:
A. Guiler, Town Manager
K. De Groot, Treasurer
Absent:
Councillor J. W. Holliday
Mayor Rickard explained that the Special Meeting of Council
had been called for the purpose of considering the
carpenters strike at the Orono Arena but that two other
items would be considered, i.e. Newcastle and District
Chamber of Carmerce application for a liquor pellllit for
Harbour Day, August 7 1978 and the Ontario Hydro
Expropriation of Base Line School.

Moved by Con. Gray, seconded by Con. Taylor
THAT Council approve of the application of the Newcastle
and District Chamber of Carrnerce for a liquor and beer
pellJlit for fund raising "Harbour Day" at Port of
Newcastle Marina on August 7 1978.

Mayor Rickard reported on a meeting with mEmbers of the Base
Line Community Centre relating to the future of the
Community Centre after the expropriation by Ontario Hydro.

THAT the Town Manager bi;i. requested to invite OOtario
Hydro officials to the next meeting of the Finance and
Administration Ccmnittee to discuss the compensation offered
for the Base Line Community Centre Building.

Councillor Taylor advised of a possible conflict of
interest and did not vote or take part in the discussion
of this itEm.

The Town Manager advised Council that he had been
notified verbally by the Secretary of the Cabinet that the
a.M.B. approval of the Courtice Zoning By-Laws and
Sub-Dividers had been confirmed on July 19 1978.

THAT no action be taken relating to involVEment in
the Orono Arena Contract at this time.
