Inaugural Meeting of the 1977 - 1978 Council of the Town of
Newcastle held at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 3rd., 1977 in the
Council Chambers, 132 Church Street, Bowmanville.

His Worship Mayor Rickard and Members of Council took the Declaration
of Elected Office and swore the Oath of Allegiance before Town
Clerk Joseph M. McIlroy and Mayor Rickard assumed the Chair.
Invocation
The Reverand Guy Corvers of the Maranatha Christian Reformed
Church led in a short religious service and was thanked by Councillor
Taylor on behalf of Council.
Among those in the audience which filled the Council Chamber were
Mr. Walter Beath the first Regional Chairman, Mr. Doug Moffatt M.P.P.,
and Mr. Allan Lawrence M.P., who made short addresses.

Mayor Rickard and Members of Council then made remarks to the
Assembly.
