That the Committee to select recipients ol5 a)_ Town Council or in the alternative; �b) of tree ci�lzens as established by A Select Committee.� Committee. — --- — the Striking -- BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: By Resolution GPA -713-84, the matter oAfteroconsidering uring Town cthe zcomments referred to staff for further study. 5� �S made at the June 16th General Purpose and Administration Committee meeting staff have redrafted the recommendations to provide for greater structure on the mechanics of how people are selected. There was no definitive direction on who should select the citizens. Recommendation #6 provides for a choice between Council and a Select Committee of three citizens as established by the Striking Committee. Respectfully submitted, DSJ:nof David Johnston, M.C.I.P., Chief Administrative Officer ADMIN. 59 - 84 Schedule "A" The Selection committee shall cause to be published in September of each year advertisements in local newspapers having general circulation in the area requesting that nominations be made for Citizen of the Year. In this Bicentennial year the advertisements should indicate that eleven Citizens will be selected. The advertisement should stipulate that the nomination must be in writing from a current resident of the Town. All names must be submitted to the Selection Committee no later than September 30th. The advertisement should outline that the Selection Committee considers deserving candidates to include but not necessarily be limited to a community volunteer worker, an outstanding sportsman or a person who has been recognized both within and outside the Town for his or her contribution to society. In addition, the advertisement should declare current employees and Council members as ineligible. After September 30th, the Selection Committee will review and evaluate the names received. The names of the nominees and the selection(s) will be kept confidential until such persons have been proclaimed as Citizen(s) of the Year by Council resolution.
