REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF FEBRUARY 18th, 1985.

SUBJECT: CONVENTION EXPENSES - MEMBERS OF COUNCIL
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. That Administrator's Report Admin. 9-85 be received; and
2. That each Member of Council be provided up to $600.00
towards convention expenses in any calendar year.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
As part of the budget discussions, Council considered the
matter of convention allowances for Members of Council. Based upon the
1984 experience, it was generally agreed that an allowance of $400.00
was inadequate to pay ever-increasing registration fees, travel, hotel
and meal allowances. It was felt appropriate to adjust the amount upward
but at the same time, maintain a cap on individual Councillor's expenses
in connection with seminars and conventions.
In presenting the revised policies, it is staff's interpre-
tation that any Member of Council might attend conferences at his or her
discretion. However, the Corporation will only pay expenses to a maximum
of $600.00 per year. Any expenses incurred beyond the,$600.00 amount would
be the responsibility of the individual Councillor.
