ADMIN. 30 - 85
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
The Town of Newcastle Bicentennial Committee undertook two major
projects during the Bicentennial Year. The first involved the
minting, distribution and sale of a Bicentennial Coin commemorating
the Province of Ontario's Bicentennial activities, and the
Town of Newcastle's 10th Anniversary.
The second project involved the publication of a series of articles
in newspapers having local circulation within the Town.
As a result of the grants received and the monies expended and
the revenues generated through the sale of coins, there is a surplus
of approximately $6,155.67. (refer to detailed sheet for distribution).
The distribution of the Bicentennial coin would not have been possible
without the tireless efforts of Mr. & Mrs. Jackman. Mr. Jackman has
expressed an interest in the Bicentennial Book "Loyal She Remains". Such
a gift would be an appropriate recognition of Mr. & Mrs. Jackman's
efforts on behalf of the Town. The monies to purchase the present would
be drawn from the Bicentennial Account with the residual funds being directed
to the selected project.
With the completion of these projects, it is appropriate that the
Bicentennial Committee's activities be concluded and that those involved
in helping the Bicentennial Committee celebrate the Town's 10th
Anniversary and the Province's Bicentennial be thanked for their hard work.
Council should also consider passing a motion to thank those who participated
on the Bicentennial Committee for their efforts.
All of which is respectfully submitted,
