INAUGURAL- MEETING OF DECEMBER 6TH, 1982
SUBJECT: Appointment of Members of Council as Chairmen of
Town Departments
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That this report be received; and
2. That each of the six Councillors be appointed annually
as Chairman of a particular Municipal Department to
act as a political liaison with the Department Head
and confer on matters relating to that Department; and
3. That the Members of Council be appointed as Chairmen to the
various Departments in accordance with Schedule "A"
attached hereto; and
4. That all Department Heads will continue to report
to the Administrator and Council as a whole.

The Mayor is the Head of Council and Chief Executive
Officer of the Corporation. The,position of Mayor differs from that
of other Members of Council to the extent that duties are placed on the
Office of Mayor by statute as well as certain powers of an executive
nature.
The Mayor and Administrator confer on a regular basis
regarding the operation of the Municipality.
In the interests of the improvement of the operation
of the Municipality and as an opportunity for Members of Council to
be more responsive and accountable in the performance of their duties,
the above noted recommendations have been made.

I have attached hereto as Schedule "A" to this report,
a list of the various departments together with the corresponding
name of the Member of Council to be appointed as Chairman of that
Department.
