CHAIN OF OFFICE - REGION OF DURHAM

RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That this report be received for information.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
When the Region of Durham was formed in 1974, a new Chain of
Office was prepared for the Chairman. At that time, the Chain of Office
was composed of discs of some of the municipalities' crests from around
the Region. The Town of Newcastle did not have an official Town Crest
at that time.
Over the past summer, we have requested that the company which
prepared the Town's Chain of Office, prepare a disc of our crest for
incorporation into the Regional Chain of Office. The cost of this
disc, which has been installed, was $209.93. Prior to the installation
of this disc it was agreed between the Chairman's Office and this office,
that the cost would be split between the Region and the Town.
I believe that Membersof Council should be aware that
the Regional Chain of Office now displays the Town of Newcastle's official
crest.
