MAYOR'S REPORT No. 2-85
SUBJECT: James E. Coombes
Part Lot 8, Concession 3, former Darlington Township
Thistle Valley Park
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that Committee recommend to
Council the following:
1. That this report be forwarded to Council for
consideration.

BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Attached hereto is a copy of a letter from Mr. James E.
Coombes, the contents of which are self-explanatory.
Mr. Coombes would like Council to consider passing a
resolution which would allow him to hold a two-day tractor pull on
his property in part of Lot 8, Concession 3 of the former Darlington
Township, which property is known as Thistle Valley Park.
Mr. Coombes has sponsored such events over the past
few years.

Dear Mayor and Members of Council:
I am the owner of Thistle Valley Park which is located
in part of Lot 8 in Concession 3 of the former Township of Darlington
in the Town of Newcastle. Over the past couple of years, there
have been "tractor pulls" on my property and I would like to sponsor
another such event on Saturday and Sunday, June 22nd and 23rd, 1985.
The Town of Newcastle zoning by-law #84-63, Section
#3.22 (c), states as follows:
"Council may authorize, by resolution, the use of lands
for special events, the duration of which shall not
exceed seven (7) consecutive days or seven (7) days
total in any one calendar year".
Would Council consider granting me authorization by
resolution to hold a "Tractor Pull" on my property on June 22nd and
23rd, 1985. I believe that an event such as this brings people from
all over Ontario and even from the United States to our Town and
promotes our Municipality.
