It is respectfully recommended that Committee recommend to

BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
In 1984, Council established the "Citizen of the Year" award
to recognize individuals in the Town of Newcastle for their outstanding
contributions to society. Eleven persons were recognized last year, ten
because of the Town's Tenth Anniversary and one for the eleventh year.
In 1985, I would suggest that the Town recognize five

citizens, two of which should be young people because of the fact that 1985 is
International Youth Year.
I would suggest that a letter be sent from the Mayor's Office
to various organizations asking for nominations of individuals in the
Municipality for the "Citizen of the Year" award.
Advertisements should be placed in the local newspapers
as well.
Respectfully submitted,
