REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 3rd, 1985
SUBJECT: MAYOR'S REPORT No. 16-85
SELECT COMMITTEE ON ENERGY
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that Committee recommend to Council
the following:
1. That this report be received; and
2. That the Town of Newcastle make a presentation to the Select
Committee on Energy opposing any action to cancel or slow down
the construction of the Darlington Generating Station; and
3. That the presentation be a written brief to the Select Committee
on Energy.

BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
With the announcement by the Honourable David Peterson, the Premier
of Ontario, appointing a Select Committee on Energy which would include a
review of Darlington Generating Station, I sent a memorandum to Council
Members on July 29th, 1985. On August 13th, 1985, I sent
another memorandum to Members of Council asking each of you for your
comments.
As a result of information gathered, a brief is now being prepared
for presentation to the Select Committee on Energy. It would be appropriate
that Council support such a presentation by resolution.
