SUBJECT: MEETING OF MEMBERS OF COUNCIL WITH DURHAM REGIONAL POLICE
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that Council:
1. Receive this report; and
2. Meet informally with representatives of the Durham Regional Police Department
to discuss mutual concerns and improved communications; and
3. Thereafter, determine if additional meetings are required, and if so,
at what frequency.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
On October 18th, 1985, some Members of Council met with representatives of the
Durham Regional Police Department. Staff Sergeant Mairs of 16 Division and District
Commander Dean Westbrook were in attendance representing the Region of Durham Police
Department. Members of Council noted several concerns including vandalism, traffic
concerns and parking administration. Members of the Police Department who were in
attendance indicated a strong desire to have periodic informal meetings with Members
of Council to discuss such mutual concerns and to improve communications between the
Police and the local Municipality.
It would seem appropriate for the new Council to meet with Regional Police
officials to continue the dialogue with respect to mutual concerns. Thereafter, the
Members of Council can determine if additional meetings are required and if so, at
what frequency.
Respectfully submitted,
