MEETING: COUNCIL
DATE: April 28th, 1986
REPORT #: Mayor's Report #5-86 FILE #:
SUBJECT: Trillium Air - Letter of Support to The Air Transport Committee
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended to Council the following:
1. That this report be received for information.
COMMENT:
On April 14th, 1986, Council endorsed a resolution with respect to
a letter from Trillium Air in which letter Mr. H. J. E. Emson asked for
Council's support to launch an air service between St. Catharines and Oshawa.
Council tabled the communication until I could obtain the opinion of
Oshawa's Mayor Alan Pilkey on the merit of this service. I was informed that
the deadline for sending support letters to the Air Transport Committee had
expired.
I therefore wrote to Trillium Air indicating that I was aware that
the deadline had expired, but that Mr. Emson could contact us at any time in
the future.

Your Worship:
You may be aware that this company has made application to launch an
air service between Niagara Regional Airport (St. Catharines) and
Oshawa.
We are presently licensed to operate charter and also scheduled
services between St. Catharines/Niagara Falls and Toronto Island and
Pearson International Airport.
It is our belief having surveyed industry that with the Niagara Region
being home to the General Motor engine plants and the Durham Region
the home of the parent company there is reason to hope there is the
nucleus for expected traffic levels.
Furthermore, with the Niagara region having a number of auto related
manufacturing plants, there is further optimism for traffic sufficient
to support the service.
It is for this reason that we have made application for the service
and are seeking the active support of your goodself and your council.
If you believe such a service has merit, it would be much appreciated
if you would write to:
The Secretary
The Air Transport Committee
Ottawa, Ontario K1A ON9
you should refer to docket #8639.
a
In closing we believe that any enhanced activity at the Oshawa
Municipal Airport can only have a positive effect on the airport's
claim as a regional transport terminal.
Thank you for your assistance.
Yo
urs very truly,
