Minutes of a meeting of the Community Services
Committee held in the Bowmanville Committee Room
on Monday, January 30, 1978 at 7 p.m.
Roll Present were: Councillor Alfred Gray, Chairman

Adoption THAT the minutes of the meeting held on January 9, 1978 be
of Minutes adopted as read.

Memorial Mr. Brown and Mr. Ri.nes of Memorial Park Association
Park addressed the Committee.

Moved by Con. Allin, seconded by Con. Woodyard
THAT the request of the Memorial Park Association as to
the possibility of becoming a Charitable Organization be
referred to the Town Manager to check with the Town
Solicitor for his comments.

Clarke Mr. Earl Walkey and Mr. Don Vinkle were present representing
Cemetery the Clarke Cemetery Board. Mr. Walkey thanked the Committee
Board and the Recreation Department for the work done in the
abandoned cemeteries last summer. He indicated that because
of some confusion the Clarke Cemetery Board had not been
active in 1977. He was asked to submit names for a Clarke
Cemetery Board for 1978.

O.M.R.A. THAT the matter of membership in the Ontario Municipal
Membership Recreation Association be tabled until the next meeting
for further information regarding the number of members
who may be nominated from the Municipality.

Bowmanville Mr. J. Caruana, Deputy Director of Recreation reported
Figure on the problems with the Bowmanville Figure Skating
Skating Club Club and that the Club is now working well.

Visual Arts
The Director of Recreation reported on the wind damage

at the Visual. Arts Centre.
Resolutions
The Town Manager reported that the meeting regarding
CS -276-77
Soper Creek Park had been cancelled due to a snowstorm

and his report on the Evaluation of the Bowmanville
Cemetery would be made at Budget Time.
Fire Pumper
Fire Chief Hayman presented specifications for a Fire
Courtice.

Tender THAT it be recommended to Council that they proceed to call
Call Tenders for the Fire Pumper as per the speciifications

Fire The Fire Chief presented suggestions for a building for
Hall a Fire Hall for the Courtice Area.

Moved by Con. Dykstra, seconded by Mayor Rickard
THAT the Fire Chief bring back to the next meeting of the
Committee a complete report on Fire Halls of Steel Construction
including square footage, costs per square foot and also
comparative cost of cement block building and if construction
supervision on a steel building can be done in-house and
copies be supplied to all members of the Committee.

Public THAT it be recommended to Council that the necessary
Meeting arrangements be made to hold a Public Meeting in the
re Newcastle former Village of Newcastle for the purpose of electing
Community two members to the Newcastle Community Hall Board and
Hall Board that the meeting be held on Thursday, February 16,
1978, at 7:.30 p.m.

Information THAT a representative of the Social Planning Council be
