Minutes of a meeting of the Community Services
Committee held on Monday, May 8, 1978 at 1:15 p.m.
in the Committee Room. Bell Building.
Present were: Councillor Alfred Gray, Chairman

Adoption THAT the minutes of the meeting of April 24, 1978 be approved
of Minutes as read.

Senior THAT the report of the Senior Citizens Steering Committee,
Citizens dated April 24, 1978, be received for information and the
Ad Hoc Director of Community Services endeavour to keep the Senior
Steering Citizens informed of the programs available in the Community
Committee and supply the necessary information and Marlis Lindsay of
Report. the "New Horizons" program of the Ministry of Health and
Welfare, be invited to a future meeting of the Committee.

Community THAT the Secretary inquire as to any further developments

Clarke Councillor Woodyard presented a report of a meeting of the
Cemetery Clarke Cemetery Committee held on April 29th, 1978 in Orono.
Committee The officers elected were: John Stone, Chairman, Don Vinkle
Vice -Chairman, Helen Schmid, Secretary.. They advised that
they would be responsible for grass cutting and general upkeep
of the abandoned cemeteries but would like to be advised of
the grants which might be expected for any major capital
expense.

THAT the Committee be advised that there is $1500. in the budget
for cemetery restoration and if they report on work which they
wish to do, the Town will co-operate and pass any necessary by-
laws or give what assistance they can.

Mr. Harold Muir presented a report of
a meeting of the Darlington
Cemetery
Cemetery Committee which reported that
they would
try to complete

on with work on
the Old Methodist Cemetery on the 9th

and was advised
that there was $1500. in the budget for
cemetery
restoration in
1978.

Old THAT the Darlington Cemetery Committee submit the necessary sketch

Grass THAT the Abandoned Cemetery Committees be asked to make arrangements

THAT THE following Schedule of Spring and Summer Fees for
Darlington Sports Centre be recommended to Council:
(a) Auto shows, garage sales, flea markets, music shows, banquets
and dances; private rentals such as weddings, wedding anniversaries
retirement parties, light functions, political meetings, etc.
$15.00 per hour with a minimum charge of $125.00. per day.
(b) Where alcoholic beverages permitted for sale: $220, per day
(c) Time allocation: 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
(d) Please Note: Day before and day after ($1;.00) per hour for
setting up and cleaning re Sections (a) and (b).
(e) Floor Rentals: Ball Hockey, Soccer and other active
activities - $15.00 per hour.
(f) Arena Canteen - Department of Community Services, Town of
Newcastle, reserves the right to operate Arena Canteen on
all above rentals.

THAT the following recommendation of the Director of Community
Services regarding an Awards Policy, be recommended to Council:
Provincial National and International Achievements in Sports
and Culture for Town of Newcastle Teams or Individuals:
Athletics
That all teams and individuals winning a Provincial, National
or International Championship Achievement, recognized by Sports
Ontario and Sports Canada, receive an appropriate award from the
Town of Newcastle.
Culture
That all groups and individuals winning a Provincial, National
or Internation l Achievement recognized by various agencies
of the Provincial and Federal Government .receive an appropriate
award from the Town of Newcastle.
Authority
That all awards must be approved by the Town of Newcastle
and that the Director bring in a cost of sample medallions
suitably engraved with the Town Crest.
