Roll Call Present were: Councillor Alfred Gray, Chairman Councillor J. W. Holliday, Member Councillor R. Dykstra, Member Mayor G. B. Rickard, Member Deputy Clerk, G. Gray, Committee Secretary Absent: Councillor D. W. Allin, Member Also Present: A. Guiler, Town Manager J. Hayman, Area Fire Chief J. Caruana, Deputy Director of Community Services. Resolution ICS -206-78 Moved by Con. Holliday, seconded by Mayor Rickard Adoption THAT the minutes of the meeting of August 14, 1978 of Minutes be adopted as read. "CARRIED" Newcastle Mr. Tim Barry of the Newcastle Community Conservation Community Centre spoke to the Committee regarding the continuance Conservation of the Farmers Market which they had initiated on the Centre Parking Lot East of the Police and Fire Building in re Bowmanville and asked if the Municipality would Farmers take it over. Market Resolution #CS -207-78 Moved by Con. Holliday, seconded by Mayor Rickard THAT it be recommended to Council that the Municipality take over the operation of the Farmers Market on a trial basis until October 19, 1978, under the Clerk's Department, by the By -Law Enforcement Officer. Holliday Spring & THAT the Spring & Summer Report of the Community Services Summer Report Department be received for information. Community Services "CARRIED" Resolution 41CS-209-78 Moved by Con. Dykstra, seconded by Mayor Rickard Mrs. Stephens THAT the letter from Mrs. Doris Stephens of Baltimore re Orono Park expressing appreciation to the Parks Department for the well kept condition of Orono Park, be received for information and that the Secretary acknowledge receipt of the letter. "CARRIED" Resolution 41CS-210-78 Moved by Con. Holliday, seconded by Mayor Rickard Municipal THAT the memorandum from the Fire Chief recommending Commercial that consideration be given to changing the time of Garbage Garbage Pick-up from commercial establishments in Pick-up the former Town of Bowmanville and that there should be some control over the location of Private Disposal Units be received for information and referred to the Public Works Department for their information and action, if necessary, and the By -Law Enforcement Officer and the Fire Chief be present at the discussion. Dykstra Personnel THAT the Fire Chief be authorized to proceed with etc. Fire recruiting personnel and ordering future requirements Hall 414 of communications, duty clothing etc. for Fire Hall Courtice 414 at Courtice. "CARRIED" Community Services Committee - 3 - Resolution #CS -212-78 August 28, 1978 Moved by Con. Dykstra, seconded by Con. Holliday Fire THAT in response to the memorandum from Fire Chief Hayman, Stedman Mayor Rickard write to Chief Stacey and the Oshawa Fire Store Department and the Secretary write to St. John's Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, and a Notice be published in the Canadian Statesman, the Newcastle Reporter and the Orono Times, thanking those organizations and the wives of the firefighters and many other individuals for their invaluable assistance during the Fire at Stedmans Store on August 20, 1978. Holliday Canada THAT it be recommended to Council that they express Jam appreciation to various agencies such as the Fire Mosport Department, the Durham Regional Police, the Ontario Park Provincial Police, the Durham Regional Health Unit and the Sponsors of Canada Jam, Saturday August 26, 1978, at Mosport Park for the good management of the affair. Holliday By -Law THAT By -Law 78-63, regarditg the establishment of 78-63 the Orono Arena as a Community Centre, be referred Orono Arena to the next meeting. "CARRIED" Community Services Committee - 4 - August 28, 1978 Resolution #CS -214-78 Moved by Con. Holliday, seconded by Con. Dykstra Agreement THAT the Agreement regarding the Proposed Swimming re Proposed Pool at the Bowmanville High School be placed on Swimming the next Agenda and representatives of the School Pool Board and the Splash Committee be invited to attend. "CARRIED" Resolution #CS -215-78 Moved by Con. Dykstra, seconded by Mayor Rickard Courtice THAT the matter of Public Funds for Tennis Courts Tennis at Courtice be deferred to the next Agenda.
