Gray, Chairman Councillor J. W. Holliday, Member Mayor G. B. Rickard, Member Deputy Clerk, G. Gray, Secretary Absent: Councillor D. W. Allin, Member. Resolution #CS -.260-77 Moved by Con. Holliday, seconded by Mayor Rickard Adoption THAT the minutes of the meeting of October 24, 1977 of Minutes be adopted as read. "CARRIED" Parks The Parks and Recreation Director presented his report. and Recreation Resolution #CS -261-77 Moved by Mayor Rickard, seconded by Con. Holliday Motor THAT the Committee approve of the action taken by the Bowmanville Arena Manager in replacing the compressor motor at Arena the Bowmanville Arena. "CARRIED" Resolution #CS -262-77 Moved by Mayor Rickard, seconded by Con. Holliday Newcastle THAT the Director's report regarding the Newcastle Village Village Skating Club be received for information and Skating any further problems in this area be discussed with Club the Town Manager. Holliday, seconded by Mayor Rickard Santa Claus THAT -`t be recommended to Council that the Orono Day - Orono Chamber of Commerce be granted permission to use the Park Orono Park for a Santa Claus program on Sunday, December, 11, 1977, at 2 p.m. "CARRIED" Resolution FCS -264-77 Moved by Con. Holliday, seconded by Mayor Rickard Outdoor THAT it be recommended to Council that a group of Rink people headed by Mr. Ron Reed be permitted to make Orono and supervise an outdoor rink in Orono Park this winter. "CARRIED" Resolution CICS -265-77 Moved by Mayor Rickard, seconded by Con. Holliday enior THAT the Committee propose to call a Public Meeting Citizens and invite various Agencies, the Social Planning Council, Churches, Service Clubs and Chambers of Commerce regarding Senior Citizens needs in the municipality and the meeting be held in the Council Chambers, Tuesday, November 22, 1977 at 7:30 p.m. and ads be placed in the local papers. "CARR.IED" Old At 2 p.m., the meeting was joined by the Town Manager, Kirby the Town Treasurer, Mr. V. N. Styrmo, Historical and School Museums Branch of the Ministry of Culture and Recreation representatives of the Town of Newcastle Museum Board, the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee, and other interested pers,ns to discuss the disposition of the Old Kirby School. Mr. Styr-ro explained the Grant structure for museums and the grants available for Heritage conservation. A general discussion of the best use for the School followed, with contributions from Mro. L. Thrasher, Mr. A. Thoom-peon, Mr. R. Hancock of the Museum Board, Mrs. M. Hubbard and Mr. W. Bagnell of the L.A.C.A.C. and Mrs. Doris Roberts and Miss Dyana Layng. The concensus of opinion was that the school be operated as a detached gallery of the Clarke Museum Community Services Committee - 3 - November 7, 1977 Resolution #CS -266-77 Moved by Mayor Rickard, seconded by Con. Holliday THAT the Town Manager be asked to investigate and expedite the matter of the Deed for the Kirby School from the School Board to the municipality. "CARRIED Resolution #CS -267-77 Moved by Mayor Rickard, seconded by Con. Holliday THAT it be recommended to Council that they recommend to the Town of Newcastle Museum Board that they proceed forthwith to incorporate the Kirby School in their program in accordance with the presentations an.d recommendations made as of this date by interested citizens and under the broad terms of the interpretation of the guidelines as explained by Mr. Styrmo.
