HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977-06-06TOWN OF NEWCASTLE Community Services Committee June 6, 1977 Minutes of a meeting of the Community Services Committee held on June 6, 1977 at 1:15 p.m. in Court Room #2, Police and Fire Building. Roll Call Present were: Councillor Alfred Gray, Chairman Councillor D. W. Allin, Member Councillor J. W. Holliday, Member - at 1:30 p.m. Mayor G. B. Rickard, Member - at 2:15 p.m. Deputy Clerk, G. Gray, Secretary. Note* Resolution #CS -171-77 - See Page 3. Local Architectural Mr. Fred Cane and Mrs. Marie Hubbard appeared before the Conservation Committee on behalf of the Local Architectural Conservation Committee Advisory Committee. Mr. Cane reported that the Archives of Ontario would microfilm original municipal records and either preservation store the records and provide the Town with the microfilms or of Municipal return the records. The Provincial Government provides this Records service. Resolution #CS -172-77 Moved by Con. Allin, seconded by Con. Holliday THAT the Clerk contact Mr. Alex Ross of Municipal Records, Archives of Ontario to inspect the old records and recommend to Council regarding their disposition. Holliday 1911 Insurance THAT Mr. Cane be granted permission to remove a 1911 Insurance Atlas Atlas from the Bowmanville Vault and keep it at the Bowmanville Library for the summer for his use in researching local buildings. "CARRIED" Newcastle Mr. Everett Jenkins, representing the Newcastle Lions Club Tennis spoke to the Committee regarding the proposed Tennis Courts Courts at the Newcastle Public School Grounds. Holliday THAT it be recommended to Council that the Municipality provide interim financing for the tennis courts at the Newcastle Public School at a project cost of $40,000, subject to the Newcastle Lions Club providing details of costs and financing. Holliday Orono THAT Mr. Fanning's recommendation that Mr. Earl Davis run Park the booth at Orono Park for the 1977 season, at a rent of Booth $175. for the season, plus the cost of hydro, be approved. Iiolliday Skate THAT Council concur with the Director of Parks and Recreation's Board recommendation that no action be taken at the present time Hill on the request of a group of boys to provide a skate board hill on Clinton Street and the boys be informed that, if they use this area, they do so at their own risk. Allin O.M.B. approval THAT Council identify and confirm Ontario Municipal Board of funding for Approval for the necessary funding for the construction of arenab Orono Arenas at Orono and Newcastle and authority be left with and Newcastle the Mayor, the Clerk and the Treasurer to finalize the amounts. Holliday By-law 77-42 THAT By-law 77-42, being a by-law to establish a Community Community Centre Recreation Centre at the Durham Fairboards Arena, be at Orono Arena presented to Council.
