HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977-05-16TOWN OF NEWCASTLE Community Services Committee May 16, 1977 Minutes of a meeting of the Community Services Committee held on May 16, 1977 at 7 p.m. in the Committee Room of the Bowmanville Town Hall. Roll Call Present were Councillor Alfred Gray, Chairman Councillor D. W. Allin, Member Councillor J. W. Holliday, Member - at 7:35 Mayor G. B. Rickard, Member - at 8 p.m. Deputy Clerk, G. Gray, Secretary. Also Present: T. A. Fanning, Director of Parks and Recreation. Resolution #CS -160-77 Moved by Con. Allin, seconded by Con. Gray Adoption THAT the minutes of the meeting of May 2, 1977 be approved of Minutes as read. "CARRIED" Delegation James Johnstone, Grant Brock, Kevin Goddard and Todd Bate re representing a group of boys asking for an area in Town in Skate Board which they could skateboard, appeared before the Committee. Area Resolution $CS -161-77 Moved by Con. Allin, seconded by Con. Gray THAT the Director of Parks and Recreation check with the Works Department, Fire Department, re Insurance coverage etc., regarding the use of Potters Hill leading to the Goodyear Dam south of Highway #2 for this purpose and report back to the Committee. '°CARRIED" South Courtice Paul McCullough, representing the South Courtice softball & Solina re teams and Mrs -Pat Best representing the Solina Girls Softball Baseball team were present requesting ball equipment. Equipment Resolution CICS -162-77 Moved by Con. Allin, seconded by Con. Gray THAT it be recommended to the Finance Committee that the Recreation Softball budget be increased to $600. to accommodate these requests. Holliday Repairs THAT the revised cost of repairs for the Darlington Sports Darlington Centre, $11,544.35, as a result of the fire, be forwarded Sports Centre to the Finance Committee in order that the budget may be Fire revised. "CARRIED" M.J.Hobbs M. J. Hobbs School requested the use of the Darlington Sports School Centre for a dinner and graduation ceremonies on June 23, 1977, Graduation The Recreation Director reported that the changes required by the Fire Deprtment in order to allow 600 people in the Centre had not been made. Resolution #CS -164-77 Moved by Con. Allin, seconded by Con. Holliday THAT it be recommended to the Finance Committee that the work be done, at a cost of $1,298.64 and a Community Recreation Centres Grant be applied for. "CARRIED" Tennis A figure of $25,500. as a cost to instal tennis courts at Courts Courtice High School was submitted by the Director to be used Courtice for applying for Grants. Resolution #CS -165-77 Moved by Con. Allin, Seconded by Con. Holliday Recreation THAT Recreation Report 469, plans for a building for the use Building of the Recreation Department, be received for information. "CARRIED" Resolution #CS -166-77 Moved by Con. Holliday, seconded by Con. Allin THAT the Director of Parks and Recreation ask for 2 or 3 quotations from other Firri for comparison. Holliday Darlington THAT the Director of Parks and Recreation proceed with changes Sports to the Darlington Sports Centre as required by the Liquor Centre Control Board. Holliday Grass THAT the Deputy Clerk draw to the attention of Mr. Best, the Cutting By-law Enforcement Officer and Councillor Woodyard, Chairman Cemeteries of Personnel and Property Committee, the grass cutting in Cemeteries in the former Township of Clarke and to Mr. Best, Con. Woodyard and Counc llor Taylor, in the former Township of Darlington. "CARRIED" Resolution TICS -169-77 Moved by Mayor Rickard, seconded by Con. Allin Grass THAT the Chairman check with the Works department regarding Cutting arrangements for grass cutting on cul-de-sacs and other Town Town property.
