HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-05-05TOWN OF NEWCASTLE Newcastle Recreation Advisory Committee May 5, 1976 Minutes of a meeting of the Newcastle Recreation Advisory Committee and Community Services Committee held in Court Room #1, Police and Fire Building on May 5, 1976, at 8 p.m. Roll Present were: Con. Ann Cowman, Chairman Call Con. K. E. Lyall, Member Mayor G. B. Rickard " Bill Brunt " Ramona Rickard " Jean Wagar " Graham Dallas " Grant Herron " Lloyd Coverley " T. A. Fanning, Director of Parks and Recreation G. Kennett, Program Director Deputy Clerk, G. Gray, Secretary. Absent were: Con. D. W. Allin, Member H. Webster (who sent his regrets) Jean Sheridan " Dorothy Stark " Sterling Mather " Neil Newton " Adoption Moved by Bill Brunt, seconded by Grant Herron of That the minutes of the meeting held on March 31, 1975 be Minutes adopted. "CARRIED" Present Mr. Fanning gave a resume of the programs presently carried Programs on by the Recreation Department. New A general discussion followed regarding new programs which might Programs be introduced to include all facets of Recreation and Culture in the Town. It seemed to be the consensus of opinion that the Liaison present trend is away from organized sports to individual leisure with pastimes. The Committee for liaison with School Boards reported School good co-operation. Mayor Rickard pointed out that there are Board Government Grants available such as Wintario and Community Centres Grants. It was felt that recreation should remain a local respons- Grants ibility. Darlington Mayor Rickard said that he would call a meeting of the Darlington Recreation Recreation Committee which was appointed in 1974 but had never been Committee called together. He thanked those who had come to the meeting. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 10:30 p.m. Ann Cowman G. Gray Chairman Secretary
