Corporation of the Town of Newcastle
Recreation Report for the Community Services Meeting on
Monday Evening, April 21st, in the Town Hall Committee
Room, Bowmanville, Ontario at 7:00 p. m.
1. Darlington Sports Centre:
(a) Evaporater for Compressor Machines in the Darlington
Sports Centre: T. A. Fanning & Roy Neads.
(b) Rink Boards in Centre in very poor condition.
Boards consist of i inch plywood and quarter inch
masonite. Would like to discuss crystoplax plastic
covering or plank boards. Crystoplax job would
cost $4,500.00 to be enstalled plus tax. All the
Arenas in Oshawa have it.: T. A. Fanning & R. Neads.
(c) Still waiting to hear from the well driller Mr. Faulkna
re: well.
(d) Arena 1''anagers have a meeting re: programe for the
summer months. Tentatively: could be rented for
soccer practices, tennis and other activities.
2. Park Maintenance
Work programme started on Tuesday April 15th in the
parks in Bowmanville. Will be working in Orono Park
• on Monday, April 21st. On Saturday, April 26th, will
have a crew in Hampton and Tyrone Parks.
3. Orono:
(a) Arena meeting in Orono Youth Centre on Tuesdays May 6th,
at 7:30 p. m. 1 will be attending this meeting.
(b) Orono Jamboree on May 4th in Orono Youth Centre.
4. Programme:
(a) Figure Sk,ting Carnival on Fri& Sat. April 25th & 26th.
(b) Meetings have been held regarding "T" Ball, Tyke
Baseball, Girls ''oftba.11, Junior ''oftball, Pee Tree
Softball which will involve teams from Bowmanville,
Newcastle, Village, Orono, Courtice, Hampton,
Enniskillen and possibly Newtonville.
(c) boccer Meeting on May 1st in Orono Youth Centre having
town wide soccer league for boys 7 to 14 years of age.
(d) Recreation Mens Town League: There was a meeting held
last week concerning recreational softball 9 that
the Village of Orono cof.ld be
sport. There could be four
in for a lot of this
or five teams in
Orono and the Subdivision. The teams would play in
a league with other entries from Enniskillen,
Courtice, Newcastle, Bowmanville and other centres
in the Town.
The League is
of age and up.
Tennis Clinic:..
We are conducting a
Lions Tennis Courts
to be
recreational for those 18 years
(e)
childrens Tennis Clinic
at the
starting in the middle of May
or S•vt-.Lrday mornings. We hope to have one at the
Flying Lutchman Motor Inn and Orono Park. It
would be a six week course. Later on at the
Darlington Sports Centre.
5. Building Maintenance Orono Youth Centre:
Basement room ( former Council Chambers ) there
a past in the way of the pool table. Card Club would
like it moved. Check it out with the Building Inspector
C. Warren. he sees no problem. Matter of a stud plate
etc. Mr. Doug Simpson is going to look it over.
