TO: Ken E. Lyall Chairman Of Committee of the Whole
PRONG J. Dunham, Director of Public Works Department
SUBJECT: School Bus Shelter
DATS- 1vovember 7, 1975
I refer to a recommendation from the Committee
of the Whole and adopted by Council at its
meeting on October 20th, 1975' "That Mrs. B.
Plalascalza's request regarding the bus shelter
for school children at the corner of Waverly
Road and Spry Avenue be approved subject to the
approval of the Director of Public Works and
Planner".
In reading a copy of Mrs. Malascalza's letter'
I find that the request for a bus shelter at
the above mentioned intersection is to be loc-
ated on tine north-east corner. Spry Avenue is
a street within a residential subdivision which
is presently being developed, to date curbs have
not been constructed on either sides of Spry
Avenue.
In looking at the present statics of this devel-
oI}ment, I would think it will be 2 3 years
bef-ore the 1,4un:tcipality will assume Spry Avenue.
A7_so, I would point out that even if this 'shelter
is erected by the Developer, someone will have
to maintain it "example" keep it clean' pick up
the litter inside it and around it etc. One year
ago' the Municipality had a request for a Bus
Shelter in Newtonville9 and at that time I bel-

this shelter being used in future years, if and
or.1en bus service is established for all the new
residents of the newly developed area.
In view of all of the facts, I do not approve
of this proposal at this time. At such time that
the need is greater and a set of standards are
approved for shelters then and only then could
shelters be practical. Standards for shelters
would include size$ type of material, colour
locations, etc.
