Orono BIA Meeting
October 27, 2016, 9:30 a.m. Apple Blossom Shoppe
In attendance: Joan Butt, Yvonne Maitland, Karen Lowery, Lisa Roy, Frank Maitland, Margaret Zwart
Financial: As at October 22, $4,714.62
Santa Claus Parade: Current donations $1,750. The BIA will put in a float this year. Yvonne will ask Cat
World if they want to enter a float. Lisa will talk to Evergreen to see if they want to enter a float. BIA
float will be an Elf Float just before Santa. Members are asked to wrap big boxes. Margaret will get
banners made for the float to read: Orono thanks you for shopping local.
-BIA will donate $500 to the parade
- BIA will contribute $500 towards a full page ad in the Clarington Visitor's Guide. Lisa will design ad and
find businesses to partner with the BIA for the full page ad.
- BIA supports Clarington staff's recommendation in OPA 107 regarding Orono urban boundary
expansion. Margaret will send resolution to municipality.
- Letter from Clarington Board of Trade in support of Orono urban boundary expansion was received.
Was noted that letter stated BIA was seeking a mix of residential units. This did not exactly reflect our
request as we are looking for higher density housing.
- Margaret will take over from Karen as BIA representative on CBOT.
- Margaret will send letter to municipality requesting we be permitted to hold virtual meetings. Lisa
explained these meetings can be taped which would make meeting more access able than the current
format. New BIA by-law states it up to the board to establish the mode of calling and conducting its
meetings.
-Lisa is working on creating a Holiday Shoppers Weekend for Dec. 2, 3, & 4, and 10, 11 & 12.
- Next meeting will be our AGM will be held November 15, 6 p.m., Orono Town Hall. Yvonne will look
after refreshment. Ad will go in paper.
