Meeting of the Orono BIA Board of Directors
Held on February 24, 2016, 6 p.m. Sunny Restaurant
Present: Yvonne Maitland - Apple Blossom Shop, Dave - Creative Strands, Allister McRea - Orono
Antique Mall, Karen Lowery - Terrens Wellness, Fiona Walker - Stutt's Pharmacy, Margaret Zwart -
Orono Weekly Times, Scott Story, Wendy Partner - Local Councillor, Willie Woo - Regional Councillor.
Regrets: Lisa Roy
Minutes of the January 27 meeting were approved.
Treasurer's report: $2,743,51 balance in the bank as of December 31, 2015.
Discussions:
- Karen brought up advertising in Watershed Magazine. We will place an ad in the 3rd quarter issue for
the same price ($450) and size as last year.
- Agreed to hold no less than six meetings a year, one of the six to be the Annual General Meeting.
Yvonne will send schedule of meeting dates to Margaret before Monday, February 29 so Wendy can use
this information in her report to council on that date.
- Meeting days and times will alternate between Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.
- Board of Directors was approved:
Yvonne - chair, Dave - vice chair, Lisa - treasurer, Margaret - secretary, Wendy - council liaison.
- Flag poles - Wendy will check with Fred Horvath to see where the municipality gets their flag hardware.
- It was agreed the BIA would pay the $357.80 deficient for the 2015 Santa Claus Parade.
- Yvonne said she misspoke at the last meeting when she said the parade came up short $1,800.
- Lisa and Allister will hammer out which of the Antique Festival invoices still need to be dealt with.
Councillor's report: Wendy reported that store will plastic covered windows will be served with a by-law
order the end of the week.
Wendy will recommend the new BIA by-law be approved at the Monday, February 29 council meeting
with the following changes: BIA to hold no less than six meetings a year, BIA to have no less than five
directors. Wendy says she will see how it goes for the year before recommending final approval.
Items for discussion at the next meeting : New BIA brochure and logo, big box store money, banners,
public washrooms, rest stop.
