BIA Minutes,
January 27, 2016 Meeting, held at Apple Blossom Flower Shoppe
Present: Yvonne Maitland - Chair, Lisa Roy - Treasurer, Frank Maitland, Fiona Walker, Scott Story,
Margaret Zwart.
Regrets: Wendy Partner - Council Liaison, Karen Lowery.
Treasurer's report: $2,735.09 bank balance.
Approved 2016 budget: Approved budget of $6,000; $170 MTO for annual sign fee; $3,400 Summer
Plant Program - install, remove, maintain, store, re-plant; $850 website maintenance - hosting, domain;
$1,460 - advertising, events and misc.; $120 - bank charges.
Yvonne reported the Santa Claus Parade operated at a $1,200 loss this year
BIA owes Antique Festival about $600 - waiting for receipts from Allister.
Easter Egg Hunt: Scott will make arrangements for our annual Easter Egg Hunt for Saturday, March 26.
Discussion ensued regarding the municipality's concern with the lack of involvement of members in the
Orono BIA . A recommendation has been presented to council to dissolve the BIA. Attending members
were offended at the recommendation. We will send a letter asking that the report to council
recommending changes to the Orono BIA be tabled until we can formulate a formal response.
The updated Orono Parking Study concluded there was sufficient parking downtown Orono. The study
was conducted by Clarington's Engineering Department over two days; a Monday and a Thursday.
Members felt the study was skewed as at least half the businesses in Orono are closed on Mondays.
Next meeting: February 21. Location and time to be announced.
