FROM: Barbara Schon
DATE: 6 October, 1983
Following are some facts and opinions in regard to the building
and heating system.
The building was cold and damp, therefore it was necessary to
provide some temporary heat immediately.
Rented from Tim's Rental:
7 220v 4800w industrial electric heaters
4 to be placed in the library
2 for the auditorium
1 for the Senate Room and adjoining space
We understand from Standard Mechanical and the electrician that
this heat supply will only be adequate during the fall months
before the temperature drops to the freezing level.
The existing wiring will not take any additional load.
Estimated costs:
7 heaters @ $48 per month $336.00
PST 23.52
Total 359.52
3 months rental ($359.52 x 3) $1,079
Installation 250. (est.)
Hydro
Newcastle PUC estimate per month $720
3 months Hydro (720 x 3) 2,160. (est.)
TOTAL
3,489• (est.)
These expenses can be covered from the budgeted amount
for heating costs.
This form of electrical heating is an interim measure and will
only be adequate until the temperature drops to the freezing point.
Memo - October 6, 1983 (cont.)
Costs have been projected for a three-month period on the
assumption that:
1) the fall will be mild
2) a tender will be accepted during that period
It is recommended that the library provide temporary heat only
until the contract has been signed; and that the Contractor
assume responsibility for the provision of heat at his expense
from the time the contract is accepted or within a reasonable
time; and that provision of temporary heat be included in the
specifications.
Closing the library
It should be understood that the library is to remain open as
long as possible and when a closing is necessary, that adequate
notice as to date and duration of closing be given the library
Board in order that the public may be informed.(minimum of 3 weeks)
