PART LOT 24, CONCESSION 51 DARLINGTON
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report CD-23-91 be received;
2 . THAT a Designated Property Grant in the amount of $2,000 .00
be approved for Daniel Hogarth House;

Clearing Account 1003-00015-0000; and
4 . THAT the Ontario Heritage Foundation, Mr. and Mrs . Brudek
and Mrs . Phyllis Dewell, Chairman, Local Architectural
Conservation Advisory Committee be advised of Council's
decision.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
The Daniel Hogarth House, located in Part Lot 24, Concession 5,
Darlington, was designated as being of historical and
architectural value in October 1989 . Restoration work has
recently been completed on the exterior of the building and an
application for a Designated Property Grant has been submitted.
The Ontario Heritage Act, 1974, states that owners of property
which has been designated under the Act can apply to the
municipality for grants of 50 percent of the total cost of the
work, to a maximum of $3,000.00 in any calendar year to offset
the cost of restoration work. Once the grant has been paid by
the municipality, application is made to the province for
reimbursement of the entire amount, plus 10 percent to cover
administrative costs .
Report CD-23-91 - 2 - June 3, 1991
Restoration work on the porch and wainscotting was completed, at
a total cost of $5,730 . The Local Architectural Conservation
Advisory Committee has inspected the work and it is found to be
satisfactory, however, all of the work and materials used are not
eligible for grant payment. The work eligible for grant payment
under the Act, totals $4,000.
It is, therefore, recommended that the grant application
submitted by Mr. and Mrs. Brudek be approved in the amount of
$2,000, being 50 percent of the total cost of eligible works, as
recommended by the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory
Committee.
