BACKGROUND AND COMMENT
1. BACKGROUND
1.1 Our report covers the month of December, 2001. It is our intent to provide
Committee with information relevant to this department, in a timely manner
2. REPORT
2.1 The department responded to 246 calls in December and recorded total fire
loss at $275,500. A breakdown of calls responded to follows.
2.2 In 2001, we completed another successful year with the Junior Firefighters
Program. It continues to be very popular. We have no problem filling the
program and usually have a waiting list in case a spot becomes available at
the last minute.
2.3 We had, with the approval of the current budget, the opportunity to add to
staff in 2001. Captain Mark Berney moved from the suppression division to
take the newly created position of Technical SupportlTraining Officer, working
closely with the two divisional managers.
Jacquie Hill-Bower joined the prevention division as a Fire Inspector. Jacquie
has fit in well and is an asset to the division.
2.4 We also received the approval of Council to proceed with a Master Fire Plan
review of the department's services. This process has begun and the
committee is at present working on a Request for Proposal for consulting
services, to assist with the review.
