TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION
COMMITTEE - MEETING OF DECEMBER 5, 1983.
REPORT NO. FD 20-83.
SUBJECT: Clarke Museum Archives re Orono
Fire Hall Items.
Our File 10.12.6
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
THAT this report be received for information.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS
A request was received from the Clarke Museum Board asking for items of interest
and historical value, which might be acquired from the old Orono Fire Hall .
Specific reference was made to the bell , fire helmets, fire nozzles, etc.
I have completed an inspection of the Orono Fire Hall and there appears to be
nothing of any significant historical value. I believe that when the Town of
Newcastle acquired the Orono Fire Hall , the majority of these historical items
had already been removed. The bell has been removed by members of this Depart-
ment for relocation to the new Fire Hall .
All existing fire fighting equipment and clothing is required and will be re-
moved to the new Fire Hall .
When the premises are vacated by,-this Department, I would suggest that a complete
examination of the engineers report, which was' supplied by Totten, Sims and
Hu bicki , as to the structural condition of this building, be
,serious con-
sideration. ---T,he building has deteriorated to the point of being dangerous for

the public to be given free access to it. The basement stairs are completely
broken off and the hose tower is in poor structural condition.
Respectfully submitted,
f. A dridge,
ire Chief.
