MEETING: GENERAL, PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION MEETING

SUB,ECT: ROAD INSPECTION TOUR - 1989
RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report WD-31-89 be received; and
2. THAT the 1989 Road Inspection Tour be arranged for Friday, April 14th
and Friday, April 21st, 1989; and
3. THAT Members of Council advise the Public Works Department of any areas
of concern or particular interest, before April 1st, 1989, in order
that they may be included in the itinerary of the Tour; and
4. THAT all costs associated with the tour be taken from the 1989 Public
Works Budget.
REPORT
1.0 BACKGROUND
1.1 Each year a Road Inspection Tour is arranged by the Public Works Department
for Members of Council, in order that various areas of concern may be
viewed and assessed, and also to give Councillors the opportunity to
familiarize themselves with construction proposals and maintenance needs.

It is usual for the Tour to be taken in the early spring of the year
when potential problems and spring break-up are most evident. In the
past, the Tour has been scheduled for two days in order to cover the
complete municipality. A small bus or window van will be obtained by
the Public Works Department and the Tour will commence each day at
9:00 a.m. , from the Police and Fire Building on Church Street, Bowmanville.
It is suggested that the Town Administrator and the Public works
Department Administrative Assistant be invited to join the Members of
Council on this Tour.
In order that the itinerary can be prepared, Councillors are requested
to submit a request (Attachment No.1) to view any areas of particular
interest or concern to the Public Works Department on the attached sheet
not later than one week in advance of the proposed Tour.
Members of the Press are cordially invited to join Members of Council
and Staff on the 1989 Town of Newcastle Road Inspection Tour.
