REPORT #: WD -30 -86 FILE #:
SUB,ECT :
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
1986 VACATION SHUTDOWN
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That this report be received; and,
2. That the 1986 Public Works Department, two week
Vacation Shutdown be scheduled from Monday, July 28th,
1986 to Monday, August 11, 1986, inclusive; and,
3. That minimum staff be retained to provide essential
services in each Division during the shut down.

works activities caused by vacation scheduling, the Public
Works Department initiated a two week vacation shutdown
surrounding the August Civic Holiday.

REPORT NO.: WD -30 -86
This practice has been continued for the past few years
enabling the department to better schedule maintenance and
construction activities during the balance of the summer
months. Due to the number of Public Work's employees with
three or more weeks vacation, this two week shutdown
minimizes lost productivity due to vacation scheduling.
There are thirty -five (35) outside workers employed by the
Town in the Public Works Department with a total vacation
allotment in excess of six hundred days. By having a two
week shutdown, the department has less than three hundred
days of vacation entitlement to schedule throughout the
remainder of the year.
Favourable acceptance of this report will result in the
scheduling of the vacation shutdown as outlined, with a
minimum staff on hand to provide garbage collection and
other essential services.
pRespectf `ly submitted,
avid T. Gray, C.E.T
eputy Director of Public Works.
