Jonathan Taylor called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
1. Land Acknowledgement Statement
Jennifer Van Huss led the meeting in the Land Acknowledgement Statement
2. Declaration of Pecuniary Interest
None
3. Adoption of Minutes
Moved by Jonathan Taylor, seconded by Jennifer Van Huss
That the minutes of the meeting of July 12, 2023 be approved
Carried
4. Business Arising From Previous Minutes
- Social media posts are live and creating positive discussions about the
past and upcoming parade details
- Float Submission are live on the website. Rules and regulations will be
decided upon during the next meeting
Bands for parade have been researched
- New Santa Claus Parade Float has been released to the committee and
construction is underway
5. New Business
(a) Parade route - The Committee came up with alternative parade routes
due to the construction on highway 2 at Bowmanville ave. Two
suggestions brought forward: 1) Due the route backwards (start at
Mearns and end at Scuggog or 2) Start at Bowmanville high school
and end at baseline. Both options will be discussed at town meeting on
September 20th.
(b) Increase in committee meetings - Normal meetings will be held once a
month until parade and biweekly we will meet at workshop to build float
(c) Parade theme - The Committee discussed possible themes for this
years parade. Theme: The Wonder of Christmas - 60 years of Magic.
Moved by Crystal Labelle, Seconded by Kelly Matika
That the Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade Committee has determined the
theme will be The Wonder of Christmas-60 years of Magic.

(d) Rules and Regulations for parade float entries - The Committee
discussed the rule and regulations of other Durham Region parade
committees (Oshawa/Whitby) and created a set of rules and
regulations.

That the Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade Committee has created a list of
rules and regulations and posted it on the website.

e) Float designs - Floats are now in the workshop and ready for design.
First one will be Santa and reindeer. Base is built and we are ready for
decorations. Committee float will be Mrs Claus reading books to
children. Committee will continue to work on floats.
f) Inventory- make up needs to be ordered (Janet), buttons were ordered
by local printer, noses were ordered at beginning of August and should
be here soon. Banners and Brochures will be discussed at next
meeting.
7. Date Of Next Meeting
The next meeting of the Committee is scheduled to be held on Wednesday,
October 11, 2023 commencing at 7:00 p.m. in Committee Room 1A
