Minutes of a Special Council
Meeting held on October 7, 1986,
at 6:10 p.m., in Court Room #2.

Absent Were: Mayor J. Winters
Also Present: Chief Administrative Officer, L. Kotseff
Clerk, D. W. Oakes
Treasurer, J. Blanchard
The meeting was convened at the direction of
His Worship Mayor John Winters.
Councillor Hamre assumed the Chair and called
the meeting to order.

WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of
Newcastle has continually expressed its opposition to the
location of a new low -level radio - active waste disposal
facility in the Town of Newcastle;

AND WHEREAS Eldorado Resources Ltd. has determined
that one of the sites selected for proposal of the
establishment of a low -level radio - active
waste disposal facility to an Environmental Assessment
Hearing is a site within the Town of Newcastle;
NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the Corporation of the
Town of Newcastle resolves that it will act in concert
with the Regional Municipality of Durham, which will
lead in opposing the establishment of a low -level
radio - active waste disposal facility by Eldorado
Resources Ltd., in both the Town of Newcastle and the
Regional Municipality of Durham.

WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of
Newcastle has expressed its opposition to the location
of a low -level radio - active waste disposal facility in
both the Town of Newcastle and the Regional Municipality
of Durham;
NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the Corporation of the Town
of Newcastle agrees to pay 50% of the cost of professional
services required by the two municipalities for the
preparation and presentation of a united position to the
various tribunals established to review the proposal of
Eldorado Resources Ltd., effective from October 7th 1986.
