SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS - 1997 - 2000
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that Council approve the following:
1. THAT Report CD-52-97 be received;
2. THAT the schedule for the regular General Purpose and Administration Committee and
Council Meetings for the years 1997 through 2000, as presented in Schedule "A" attached
to Report CD-52-97, be approved;
3. THAT the appropriate by-law be presented to Council; and
4. THAT the General Purpose and Administration Committee and Council Meetings be held
in the Municipal Administrative Centre, 40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville, unless
otherwise determined by resolution, with the exception that one Council meeting per
quarter shall be held at an appropriate location within one of the various hamlets of the
municipality and advertised in advance of its scheduled date.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Sections 3.1 and 3.2 of the Rules and Procedure By-law for the Municipality of Clarington state
that.all meetings of Council shall be held at such place within the Municipality and at such times
as Council, from time to time, appoints by resolution.
It is therefore requested that Council approve the meeting schedule attached hereto as Schedule
"A".

BY-LAW 97-257
being a by-law to repeal By-law #94-197, and to establish
the Members of Council as Chairmen of Departments and
to establish the Order of Proceedings at the General
Purpose and Administration Committee Meetings
THE COUNCil OF THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON
HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. THAT the following members of council of the Municipality of Clarington be
designated as the Chairman of a Department as follows:
(a) Planning and Development Department - Mary Novak
(b) Clerk's Department - Charlie Trim
(c) Treasury Department - John Mutton
(d) Fire Department - Jim Schell
(e) Community Services Department - Jane Rowe
(1) Public Works Department - Troy Young
(g) Administration - Diane Hamre
2. THAT the Chairmanship of the General Purpose and Administration Committee
Meeting pass from member of council to member of council in the order
detailed in the preceding section;
3. THAT the rotation established in Section 1 remain in effect for the term of
Council;
4. THAT By-law #94-197, is hereby repealed; and
5. THAT this by-law take effect immediately on the passing thereof.

THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
BY-LAW 97-258
being a by-law to repeal By-law #94-198, and to appoint a
member of the council to act in the place of the head of
council for the Municipality of Clarington
WHEREAS Section 69(2) of the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1990, c.M.45 authorizes the
council of the municipality to appoint a member of the council to act in the place of
the head of the council;
AND WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Clarington
deems it expedient to appoint a member of the council to act from time-to-time in the
place and stead of the head of council when the head of council is absent from the
Municipality or absent through illness or her office is vacant and, while so acting,
such member has and may exercise all the rights, powers and authority of the head
of council;
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY
OF CLARINGTON HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. THAT each member of council serve in alphabetical order for a two-month
period as follows:

being a by-law to amend By-law #95-55, being a by-law to
govern the proceedings of the Council of the Municipality
of Clarington, any of its committees, the conduct of its
members and the calling of meetings
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Clarington adopted
the recommendations contained in Report CD-52-97 at its meeting held on
December 1, 1997;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Clarington
enacts as follows:
1. THAT By-law #95-55 be amended by deleting Schedule IIB" attached thereto
and replacing it with a new Schedule IIB" as attached hereto and forming part
of this by-law.
